Gary,
Thanks for the new latest date. Excuse me. I am dealing with a rebuild
of XP that gets to
and 'error' page when I select Start/Windows Update. It is a fresh from
format install. I know
that there are a buzillion patches needed but I have no access to the
normal /express/ and
/custom/ button screen. Most odd. So I asked.
No, I have no plans to continue XP unsupported. Been there, done that
back in the 95/98se days.
Then I ran Win2000 to it's end also. I avoided Vista.
I do intend to upgrade my PCs to Win7pro prior to XP's
decommissioning.Certainly, if somehow
the XP version I purchased recently is internally neutered/broken, I may
yet again erase my root
partition and move on to Win7pro a bit earlier; even though this choice
involves gutting the PC of
most of its' current hdw. I was trying to avoid this for a while longer.
Thank you again for the new info.
Best,
Duncan

My understanding from a Microsoft website is that support ends on Apr 8,

If you do not want to run an unsupported OS, and do not want to upgrade to
something newer...what is there left for you to do ? Just curious.
Regards....Gary

Subject: [H] MS and WinXP?
Has MS pushed up their schedule about WinXP?
I am working to an 02-2014 'plug-pull' datethat I believe I got from the
wise MS mavens here on our List.
No. I do not wish to upgrade to W8.1 right now. I do not own it yet.

No. I do not wish to upgrade to W7 right now, even though I own it.
I am still working a HALissue of a C2D cpu that may have a dead core.
This is an old issue and I truly appreciate all the help I have received.
Sorry, nothing worked. So,.................
I bought a supposedly old, clean, copy of WinXP. After 3wks of dicking with
it, I finally got it to erase the root partition and install itself. Funny,
the install never asked for the 'product key. Odd? I just trucked on. It
lives today. But, I am now stuck with no answer from MS Windows Update. Most
depressing.
Opinions, suggestions welcome.
