No.  The upload to dropbox would not delete the local files.  She must 
have deleted them thinking they would remain on the dropbox machine.  It 
seems lots of people think that files put into the dropbox sync folder 
are stored on the cloud so it is ok to delete them from the sync folder 
on the PC.  I get this comment all the time.
