I use Win7 Media Center with a SiliconDust HDHomeRun PRIME TV network
turner and stream to a couple of XBOX 360 extenders. Everything has
been fine, but a ago I started having troubling with the extenders
connecting to Media Center. Even when I could connect some of the
recordings would not play and I would get the protected copy message
when I tried to watch them. Now not only can I rarely connect with my
ex tender, but I can't watch any TV or recordings except for PBS..
which is the only channel COX doesn't encrypt.
I know this is a DRM issue and I have tried to reinstall DRM
Playready.. I have appended the process I have been through ...but
Playready would not install. I even tried to download playready and
install it manually which completed an install.. but did not solve
the problem. I do not understand why MS makes this so difficult to
troubleshoot and fix. Anybody have any ideas on how to sort this out?
What I tried.....
The symptoms suggest a problem with the content protection path
through the PC. Suggest starting with uninstalling and reinstalling
the Microsoft PlayReady DRM on the PC.
1) Go into Program in Control Panel and uninstall the PlayReady PC Runtime
2) Open WMC and go into Tasks > Settings > TV > TV Signal > Update
PlayReady and complete that process. If it completes successfully,
try recording something and see if you get files larger than 512kB.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
1) Close WMC if it is open
2) Open a command prompt as administrator and run:
net stop ehrecvr
cd %programdata%\Microsoft\PlayReady
del *.hds
rmdir /s Cache
cd %programdata%\Microsoft\ehome
del *.hds
rmdir /s Cache
net start ehrecvr
3) Open WMC and attempt the PlayReady update again
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
1) Download the resetdrm.exe tool from
http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink?LinkId=105000 and save it somewhere convenient
2) Right click on the file, select Properties, click on the
Compatibility tab, check the box for Run this program in
compatibility mode for:, and set it to Windows 7, then click OK
3) Right click on the file and Run as Administrator
4) Open WMC and attempt to update PlayReady
