OK. We agree on 'new install' and 'full install.'
And, I did plan to do this. But M$ never gave me the option to
fomat my c:\ partition AFTER it told me that it saw WinXP resident.
It just took off and loaded its' Win7 code right on top of the old XP code.
Well, I do now have a c:/windows-dot-old folder. Fine.
So, now I have Window 7-pro 32-bit loaded and running.
It is very different! The new desktop will take some time to get used to.
I did get my chosen AV sw loaded w/o too much grief.
ATM, I only have one question?
Where is the timer that logs me off after some period of time???
I get why this is happening, but, I'd like to decide when to log off
manually.
Best,
Duncan

Yes. Figured that out very quick!
So, please tell me what you mean by 'new install.'
What steps do you do for a 'new install?'

Clean an active partition, or create free space, so there is nothing to upgrade and then boot off the Win 7 CD. With PRO I have been able to install to a different partition but unless you wish to dual boot there is no reason for this.

I believe I tried, but WinBlows never asked me/gave me the chance.
I expected a widow that allowed me to format/erase the old 'windows.'
Never happened......................... :(
It just trucked on and installed itself! Now I have it. Well until I erase/format the
root partition to start over. Curious?
I do have Windows 7pro-32-bit loaded and running. It is scary looking so far.
Can not find jack-doodle yet! Yes, have a 'START' button. Big deal.

You can not upgrade from win732 to win764. You have to start over with a new install. If you are saying your existing OS is XP32 then you can only install win764 if you have a 64bit processor... but you still have to start with a new partition. MS has a free program/download that you can run in XP and it will tell what hardware and software is compatible to Windows 7. Google for the Windows 7 compatibility site.

So, today, I tried to upgrade one of my PC's to Win7-64 pro.
Yes, the PC was XP-32. I did not get there. I think I may be
at W7? 32-bit.
Yes, I have seen the W7 desktop (blank w/recycle bin).
Nice trademark, though.
Suspect Networking is semi-dead, but 'Windows' seems to talk to my
PC. Whatever.
Any attempt to load/run setup.exe from the '64-bit' CD fails.
Yes, this version came to me as a "Genuine Windows Install" CD-set.
OK, I used it. The PC isoperable, seems to run W7, but
I can not seem to move this PC FWD to w7-64bit.
Yes, I did try to format/erase the c:\ drive partition. Did not work as I
watched the sw do its's stuff. So, I sit confused.
