Bryan&James,
So I went to Drobo and did a look/see. Looks like a nice toy.
Well, until I check the price on the egg. WOW!
Then, as I calmed down and called my older Brother, I was able to get him
to 'sorta' self register the shares of his new DS213J NAS into his "Network Places" on his PC. Post a couple of tests, he is getting happy with his new Synology nas.
Once done, he was able to do what he did before using Netgear/Readnas logic.
Critical problem solved. I have learned alot on this one.
James, thanks for the Sans Digital links. Should another critical problem come to pass, I will attempt to demote him to a 'jbod' sorta life. Please, no disrespect. It is another solution.
Now, both of us can 'backup' our stuff and upgrade to W7pro or/and W8.1pro.

My plan is to install a 128GB SSD for the new windows OS to install to. I realize this may be a huge waste of space, I figure I'll use up a bunch of it as I've now decided to STOP segregating my OS from my Program Files. As Windows seems to be able to keep track of all this stuff, it is now time for me to use this design as delivered; and just forget old knowledge/folklore/suggestion I've held to.
Thank you to both of you. Both of us will move forward into the new dawn.
Duncan

Can anyone share links to some form of box/container I can instal 2 or

that will connect to a PC via USB? NO! I do not wish to get involved
with ESATA. I don't understand esata yet!

This is just because a USB device like a Seagate 'Free Agent'
external hard drive announces itself in the M$ 'My computer' menu, and,
M$ just assigns a new hard
drive letter to it. I assume that multiple drives post multiple drive
letters.(?)

I've spent the past 2 years trying to share 'NAS' to my older Brother. 2
trys (nas boxes); 2 failures. I now
wait for the 2d nas box to arrive on my front porch. I suspect he only
know copy/paste or cut/paste between
M$ drive letters.

Anyway; this is where I am ATM. Disappointed and frustrated.
Thanks,
Duncan
