Bryan,
LOL! I understand your share. Know it will be passed on; even if I push it.
Yes, I have gotten him to think about maybe some new hdw. Sorry, Apple is out. But, he is coming around to the fact that his old PC may just be too old to play. Just now we are doing research and talking about a BIOS update. I sent him the full minimum requirements for Win7, Win8, and Win8.1. He is off papering Gigabyte and AMD about PAE, NX, and SSE2. When he gets his answers, we will continue. Our discussion about SATA, Pata/ATA, and, ESDI. drove him deep into the cave, but, he now accepts and grasps SATA. We have not yet OPENED his PC to check whether his current PSU has SATA power connectors, but he does know all about molex->Sata adapters, and, he has one for his Crucial SSD. We both think
that Gigabyte gave him ONE SATA I/O cable.
At best, his Crucial SSD will start life on the m/b's IDE buss. I read nothing in the UM that even ghostly mentions AHCI. And what leads me to maybe a more modern m/b. Sadly, OB says his PC runs fine on XP and does everything he needs for it to do........ At that point, I just have to back off and say, "Go with GOD."
JMHO.

+1 million. Hell get him a mac mini for OSX cause it isn't that bad of a
switch depending on what he wants to do.
At the very least you should tell him to pony up for something not from the
late 90s ;0

Man, I feel you. I suggest you urge him to thrown down for a more
modern mobo, so people don't have to support the old stuff. It's hard!
Why not get him an Intel NUC or a mac mini (for Windows)?

Am I biting off more than I can chew???????

So my older Brother runs XP, but wants to upgrade to Win8.1PRO-64bit.
OK, fine. He says both W7 and W8.1 MS tester apps tell him he is good to
upgrade.
