I've been reading/googling for the past 2days to try and run down stuff that might cause trouble helping my OB upgrade his XPpro PC to Win8.1pro. Thanks to James Boswell I know that OB's processor/cpu is good to go. Nicely, yesterday, my OB decided to buy some more ram to get himself up to 4GB. He went to Crucial and got cheesed to find they were 'Out of stock!' I shared GSkill and Muskin. No. I think he spent $71.99 for a 4GB Kit ( 2x 2GB DIMMs). OK. Fine.

Today I sit here and wonder whether I should search for an dl the XP version of what I've read is the 'AHCI driver for XP.'????? I don't know much more that perhaps a reference to its' name.

I do know that his old Gigabyte m/b is currently set to "IDE." I push fwd believing that his new SSD will be spoken to once OB edits his BIOS to enable his SATA driver and logic. Not sure here???
Maybe this will enable the AHCI choice in BIOS. Just don't know enough.
It seems to me that his new SSD will still answer an 'IDE' call from his BIOS. If not, I am truly stupid!

I just wish to get his PC to launch and run his new OS setup.exe.

Suggestions, opinions, conclusions welcome.
Thankyou so much,
Duncan
