I don't have much experience with dealing with Microsoft licensing
issues. I buy operating systems or programs, install them, and never
have a problem... until windows 8.
When it first came out MS had a deal where you could buy Win 8 Pro
retail downloaded iso for 39.95. And they threw in a Media Center key
for free. I bought it Nov 2013, and got my keys. However, I didn't
get around to doing my new build until the following February 2014. I
installed Win8Pro ...everything is good. then I installed my Media
center key and OS un activated. I tried to go back to Win 8 without
media center... and kept failing because it was not and would not activate.
I called MS. They told me I had until January 31st to use the Media
center key so that is why it would not activate in Febuary. I said OK
sell me the 15 dollar key.. can't do it you have to get it direct
from the OS or by the version with Media center = 100 bucks. I said
OK then just activate my original Windows Pro key.. can't do it
because it no longer exists in the system. I was pissed but after
week worth of calls I gave up and brought a Win 8 Pro Retail Upgrade
from Newegg and once that was installed I bought Media Center for $15
through the OS.
So now I want to use the original key and media center on a new
LIVA box as my media center box. How would even go about getting this
sorted out and activated? Who would I email or call? Anybody have any ideas.?
