4 cores are better than 2 cores. How much money can you afford is what you
need to ask. If you can get the Core 2 quad cheap it would be best to hold
onto what you have and upgrade next year. If you go to an i7 now you won't
get that much noticeable improvement. But Intel has lots of new stuff
coming out just around the corner and perhaps it's better to wait a bit.
AMD has some rather interesting new CPU's coming out next year as well and
you might want to see what the other camp has to offer in competition to
Intel. By the way, what does "streaming my existing chip" mean?
