This should actually be the last beta before the game opens. The "Headstart" period I believe starts on the 27th, with a 1 week headstart to those who pre-purchase.
It is a different type of game if you haven't played an MMO before, but anyone who has played an MMO should be able to jump right in. I bought the Digital Collectors edition for a couple of reasons, mainly being the extra 8 slots of bag space to start and secondarily for the free mount, which when I hit 20 in the last beta took every penny I had saved up from 1-20 to afford. The 2 weapons you get in Team Fortress 2 for pre-purchase are pretty nice, but I hate the scout, so the Pyro axe is the only useful part. Not sure if this matters, but people who start playing within the first month get a deal on multiple month subscriptions for as long as they keep their sub going. Normally $15/mo, you can sign up for $60/6mo. (The one downside of an MMO is the monthly sub, but if you're into this type of game it is worth it.) Should be interesting and I've been playing L4D 2 a looong time now.
