Actually small bore plastic drain pipe would make a cheap durable 
conduit !  Just make sure that water cannot migrate into it.  It would 
also offer a measure of protection from the heat of the sun warming the 
soil up.

I have a 25 year old 240 volt 40 amp feed that runs underground in a 40 
mm plastic water pipe used as a conduit.  Both ends are inside 
buildings so there isn't any water collection problem.  I did notice 
that if an outside door was closed at one end you could feel a draft at 
the other end, so condensation and water build up, due to lack of 
ventilation wasn't going to be a problem.
