I feel the need to report back on this. This is the WD Mybook 3TB usb
3.0/2.0 drive from Amazon for $130.
I can't get this drive to reliably complete a backup. So far, I've
gotten it to work on only one usb 3.0 port of my main machine. It would
not complete on other 3.0 ports. I also tried on both my laptops using a
usb 3.0 express card. So, I'm going to exchange it. If the new one acts
similarly, I'm going to rip it out of its case and just use the drive in
another enclosure (my backups work fine in my other usb 3.0 enclosures,
btw). ($130 is still a good price on a backup external drive or has a
member of my movie machine array! Or, I could return it and get two 2 TB
drives for the same price, since I could use it in the array, so I'll
consider that too. ) Some reviews on amazon tell of poor connections
within the drive that cause reliability problems. It appears Joshua as
correct on this drive. Beware.

This things is super quiet and runs very cool. It comes with backup
software too but you can discard that if you like. the white led on
the front is not super bright either. The last enclosure I bought off
of newegg was super loud and spewed out RF noise that I could hear in
my speakers!
The one thing I don't like is there is a non standard connector on the
end that goes in the drive. The other side is typical usb 3.0.
For $130 - $140, this is not a bad deal for 3TB and usb 3.0.
And newegg makes you pay restocking fees on everything.

there are a number of reasons behind this:
1. none of the manufacturer's will guarantee which drive will be in the
case model wise or spec wise beyond the size. go ahead, try email
them and
ask. they will not tell you, I've tried.
2. build quality of most premade external cases are junk.
I just assembled an external for my father using the vantec CX super
speed
and a WD20EARS green. it's usb 3.0& only cost me ~$110 dollars. if you
want esata& usb 2.0 instead there is a similar vantec case for a little
less.
