It's about the right tool for the job....the greens aren't the right
tool for desktop pc use, IMO....for tivos, dvrs, medias, etc., things
that run 24/7, the are fine. The 3 year warranty is an indication of
what WD things of the drives in general...obviously, 5 years is better
and users should get confidence in using those drives.
Oh...and n=1 should never be the basis for making a decision on a
product in terms of being good or not, especially for products that do
little other than store data...we all know that 5400rm ain't gonna be
fast...

Well, green is general product line there are 2 or 3 product codes 1 of
which is for av usage. EARX maybe?
As far as crappy or not I think you will find that many premade dvr's come
with wd green or equivalent brands models not 7200 rpm black models.

Don't think its the drive. I have two 2TB green drives using NTFS
spanning to make a single large drive in my media center computer. I
use the Centon cable card tuner to record 4 shows at once and all
shows record fine. Back when I was just using two ATI cable card
tuners I had a drive made from two 1TB green drives and that worked
fine too.

Ahh, but I record the same show on a cable DVR (nothing fancy there
right?) and when I check the show recorded on the cable box-no problems!
Sooo...not the signal...and I've had them come out and check my signal and
it's actually high-and I never see problems on the live TV like that, just
the recorded...so...think I just talked myself into replacing my Green with
a Black lol! :P

Well, I have to say I have my suspicions on my Green 1TB which I put
in my TivoHD b/c everyone said a green would be cooler/better for
DVRs...thing has been choppy at times and missing bits of shows,
I have this problem when I record from my Hauppauge HD DVR but I have
never thought it was my equipment because this happens on some
channels when I am just watching...it happens a lot on PBS SOCAL. I
think it is either the broadcaster or the cable company.
and pretty slow to respond...and pretty sure the cable signal was
fine, so it seems to be the HD-I think if I upgrade again or decide
to replace this drive, I'd do it with a Black, heat-be-damned! :P

Well, these do come with a 3 year warranty. In my case,
non-critical
stuff will be on these.
How many greens have you seen, btw?

It is a green drive...but I don't know what you mean by
"crappy". They work fine for streaming blu-ray over a network. I
could not use it for a boot drive, though.
I probably shouldn't say crappy, I just prefer the black
drives for durability.
