got it now...booting from the ssd after using Acronis.....

however, that lenovo recovery partition is still there. How best to remove that and resize the main partition?

You could try Fixboot and/or FixMBR.  EaseUS products stink - after
long testing with their free backup software, I have yet to get it to
work the way they claim it will.
