Lets get a couple of things straight before this blows out of control. I do think the iphone is a great phone, but just not for me.
I had a Galaxy S II and hacked the crap out of it with custom roms and stuff. That gave me a lot of flexibility and what not, but for me there are small niggles about the iphone that piss the living daylight out of me. For example, I like the fact that I can be in the gallery on android, hit the share button and boom, any application that supports this feature is on the share with list, so that includes, gmail, twitter, facebook, path, linkedin, whatever! This behavior is across the system, so I can be in the browser and I can share the page (link) in the same manner. I could be in a third party software and share things any way I want. A very common case for me is using whatsapp, I send pics of my kids to my parents, with the S2, I used to take a pic with the cam app, and right from there say share with and then whatsapp. But with iOS I have to take the pic, then load up whatsapp, click share pic, go to the gallery select the pic and then share it. It works, but it's convoluted for me. Apple only forces you with what they want. Which is e-mail, tweet and print. Another thing which is not consequential to most people is that XDA forums has a vibrant community and there are a lot of homebrew apps that people make. Small utilities and what not. Without going into much details, I can install these apk's in android without any issue. No need for root, I just need to select "install from unknown sources" once on my phone and the rest is easy. Apple? nope, no can do. If it doesn't pass through their validation for their app store, then your only alternative is to go via cydia which requires jailbreak and I don't want to go that route. That being said, my iphone just works, it doesn't hang or crash, it's smooth as butter and the games and graphics and general polish of applications is at least twice as better as the best on android. It's a great phone, but not a phone for a true power user. I do like my iphone, but I do miss android for sure. To exacerbate the problem, my brother in law who has an S2 also installed Cyanogenmod 9 (ICS) on his S2, and I am amazed with ICS. It's amazing!!!!!
