Basically all of us work over USB connections nowadays (or WiFi).
The connection is either via ppp over usb-serial or via rndis.

It's the other way around. To do GPIO analysis you already need to
know the location of the GPIO registers on the CPU.
MTYPE is just the linux machine type, a unique number that can be
registered at http://www.arm.linux.org.uk/developer/machines/. A good
way to introduce a new device is posting the early haret log.
