There are good reasons to combine the libraries and to have them separate. My
preference is for one library, if space allows, because it makes staffing
easier, avoids duplication of some items, and allows patrons to find books of
interest without an arbitrary designation as adult or child. Some adult
patrons may benefit from a "children's" book on a subject since these books
are often written at an easier level to understand, while some children may
need the more in depth information available in "adult" sources. In addition,
when there is one library, children can observe adults using the library, thus
modeling a behavior we want to encourage.

You should speak to the various people who will be using the library to best
determine their needs and go with a design that works for them.

Best of luck,
