This is a Merit Promotion Opportunity Announcement open to GOVERNMENT-WIDE
applicants.   Applications will be accepted from any current career or
career conditional Federal employee eligible for transfer, any former
Federal employee eligible for reinstatement, any Interagency Career
Transition Assistance Program candidate, any person eligible for
consideration under any Federal special employment program (i.e. Veterans
Readjustment Act, peace corps, etc.), or any veteran who is a preference
eligible or who has been separated from the Armed Forces under honorable
conditions after three or more years of continuous active service.
Duties: As the Assistant Director of Library Services, the incumbent
assists the Director in the day-to-day management of the library,
including the execution of library policies, and maintenance and oversight
of the library's automated systems. Plans, evaluates, implements and
maintains the Library's automation activities and projects in order to
support a wide-range of functions, including identifying future
technological needs.  Organizes access to electronic resources and
subscriptions for staff and researchers and develops training programs and
documents when necessary.  Manages and maintains the Museum's integrated
library system (Voyager).   Generates system and statistical reports and
resolves software problems.  Maintains and enhances a web presence for the
Library on the Museum's web site.  Provides direction, training and
guidance to Library staff in the areas of cataloging, acquisitions, and
reference services as appropriate.  Conducts studies, provides statistical
reports, makes recommendations and initiates projects to improve the
quality and/or effectiveness of library service.  Assists the Director in
the development, refinement, and execution of Library policies and
programs.  Acts as Director in his/her absence.
