I am the half time librarian in a small Jewish Public Library (13,000 items plus periodicals) in a JCC in Canada. We serve the general public and we are not attached to Federation or schools (yet). It may one day also have to be a high school library (Judaica only, probably not secular).
I am not a teacher or a school librarian and I have been asked to investigate what would be required to serve a TT type high school. I don't have numbers of students but I am sure it won't be over 100 and it could be quite small. I need to have a sense of minimum collection requirements, space per student, computers, staffing requirements, expanded hours, shared public library/school library issues, collection budgets, and other things I probably haven't thought of yet. I know it depends on number of students but any information to start would be very helpful. I would love to hear from any high school librarian or any with expertise in this area. In short what would be required to convert a public library with part time staff & lots of volunteers to a school/public library? I met a lot of amazing librarians at conference this year and enjoyed the conference immensely. I look forward to hearing from you and I thank you all in advance for your help.
