Dear Linda, I believe some of our members occasionally review for School Library Journal and its like. Why couldn't one of these, or you yourself, make a point of reviewing such dubious works for general selection aid publications or for regional or municipal papers?
Along these lines, I reviewed Bubbie & Zaydie Come to My House years ago for several non-library publications, skewering it for its superficial and derivitive nature. I called attention to the idiocy of marking Hanukkah, a historical struggle against assimilation, with a book that embraces assimilation by aping the wider culture--and poorly. I similarly did editorials on another work on Passover by a Christian publishing house, subtitled as a book for Jewish Children but with you-know-who and his last supper taking up the last pages. My article appeared in various metro Anglo-Jewish papers and called attention to the need to carefully pre-read children's books before buying. As individual librarians, not representing AJL, editorial pieces or letters to the Book Editors of municipal newspapers certainly could be in order. Brief submissions to Hadassah or other magazines are also possible. As long as the writing is cogent and opinions are professionally presented, odds of getting exposure for your objections are pretty good. I haven't read this particular book yet so can't comment on it.
