I wrote directly to Janet Gross, but I've thought more about this. My original message to her is included below. However, I just wanted to say that the Bible is full of stories. So are the Talmud and of course all the collections of Midrash. Maybe her professor sees the Bible as a sacred book and stories as folklore and doesn't want to mix the holy and profane.
