Re. the Dewey system: "Dewey, a librarian, invented the Dewey 
Decimal  Classification in 1874 and devoted his life to spreading  it."

Not split hairs too much, but copyright law the U.S. begins in 1927. (I was 
in a session with the Michigan State University copyright lawyers, several 
years ago.) Anything before that time is not protected by U.S. Copyright, 
so far as I undersand that law. Of course, the Online Computer Library 
Center can copyright its product.

I am not a lawyer (and do not play one on television). We need a legal 
opinion by copyright experts before proceeding further.
