David Mendelsohn describes his personal experiences as a reluctant soldier and combat medic in Israel's army, 1961-1978. Through his description emerges a picture of what it is like being a reservist in TZAHAL, and some of the unique things that can happen to you--some wonderful, some hilarious, and many painfully tragic. David now lives in Toronto and is a professor of Applied Linguistics at York University.
