Subject: Re: [lbc] Geniza

There is some really interesting stuff about genizas in a book called "In an
Antique Land" by Amitav Ghosh. The author is trying to track down an
Indian slave/servant of the 12th century, and follows his travels by
documents left by the slave's Jewish owner in a geniza. The parts about how
various cultures intersected, what servitude meant at that point in time,
and how scholarship is affected by cultural practices (such as the geniza)
are great.
