Regarding lies, in college I was acquainted with two Syrian Muslims who were then attending San Francisco State College. They'd spent 6 months in Egypt being trained as propaganda agents, and they were being paid by the United Arab Republic (Egypt/Syria under Nasser) to attend college (where they studied "advertising---propaganda, to you") and propagandized. They told me (March 1967), "It is a point of honor among Arabs never to tell the truth to an enemy."
I remember the date because they crashed my 21st birthday party, and the moment they told me this my personal party ended, although it was an hour or two before I could get everyone out of my apartment.
