Hello again. Please allow me to follow up my earlier posting about ArtScroll books with a couple of clarifications:
(a) I do not represent ArtScroll/Mesorah Publications in any way, nor am I conducting market research; (b) in my research, I take a neutral position with regard to the merits of ArtScroll books (I am not interested in determining whether their translations are good or in need of improvement, nor do I wish to have any influence over whether libraries should or should not acquire them, and least of all, I do *not* mean to pursue either any pro- or anti-Orthodox agendas); (c) although I am interested to hear stories about controversies surrounding ArtScroll books (of which I have already documented many), I am, of course, equally interested in documenting cases of enthusiastic support for ArtScroll books, and especially cases where they are heavily used in libraries. I am also interested in gaining a clearer picture about which ArtScroll books appear to have greater popularity, and which ones are less used/read. For instance, anecdotal evidence suggests that, although ArtScroll publishes a large corpus of history, pop psychology and self-help books, as well as a growing number of novels, these books are not very widely collected and not very frequently read, whereas the ArtScroll Siddur, Chumash, and Talmud are very widely used. I am curious to determine with greater precision whether this is in fact the case with regard to the entire spectrum of ArtScroll's offerings. If there are libraries which have the means of tracking specific information about circulation, and if this information could be shared with me, this would be especially helpful to my research. (d) if my earlier posting did not make it sufficiently clear, I do suppose that there are many cases where ArtScroll books have been acquired as part of a library's ongoing, regular acquisition policies. If that is the case in the library where you work, I would be grateful if you could indicate that they were not acquired in response to any specific requests or donations.
