Chaya, DVD's are encoded by region and a DVD encoded for one region will not play on a DVD player from another region. This was done so that hollywood could release movies to different regions of the world at different times.
The DVD regions are as follows: ------------------------------- Region 0 - "Region Free"; can be played on any DVD player Region 1 - U.S., Canada, U.S. Territories Region 2 - Japan, Europe, South Africa, and Middle East (including Egypt) Region 3 - Southeast Asia and East Asia (including Hong Kong) Region 4 - Australia, New Zealand, Pacific Islands, Central America, Mexico, South America, and the Caribbean Region 5 - Eastern Europe (Former Soviet Union), Indian subcontinent, Africa, North Korea, and Mongolia Region 6 - Peoples Republic of China Region 7 - Reserved Region 8 - Special international venues (airplanes, cruise ships, etc.) If your DVD player is from the United States (Region 1), it will not be able to play a DVD from Israel (Region 2) unless that DVD is "Region Free" (Region 0). Look on the package to determine which region the disc is from.
