Dear friends: Here are the answers that I received about places to contact re: library shelving. Thanks to all of you who answered!
Cheryl Banks We had a good experience with Bradford Systems(in Morton Grove) when we renovated in 1998-99. We bought archives shelving from them, but they offer several different types of shelves. They offered us a competitive price, they installed the shelving, and they gave us very good service. My contact there is John Wyandt; he's still there and can be reached at 847-965-5070. Any supplier would use one of a few companies for metal shelving, Esty or MJ are widely used and are both good. I recently purchased additional shelving through a company called Cultural Surroundings. I purchased MJ. My contact person is Nicole McKenzie (that's a man) and his tel number is 214-742-2400. I am not sure how wide a territory they have. I would suggest looking up MJ Industries or Esty online and finding a rep in your area. Buckstaff is a huge national library/design company, I used them over 10 years ago, and although their product is excellent (wood, they use other suppliers for metal anyway) the company is down and out financially, although they are still exhibiting at conferences and advertising. I've known people in that company personally for many years and it's sad, but you don't want to be the customer caught if they go out of business. I would not recommend using Buckstaff. We bought some metal shelving from a few year back from Estey, Div. of Tennsco Corp., 1-800-251-8184. Stuff was good. Had to hire someone to assemble it. Can't remember if they recommended someone or we found someone here in Atlanta to do it. We are about to renovate & I assume we will disassemble what we have and reassemble it in the new site.
