That�s how it began with Judith Jaegermann in her home in Ramat Gan, Israel. As we sat together discussing the publication of her book, �My Childhood In The Holocaust,� Mrs. Jaegermann explained the miracle story of her survival in the German concentration camps during World War II.
In �My Childhood In The Holocaust,� Mrs. Jaegermann tells about surviving �selections� by Mengele. She tells of the humiliating and inhuman experience of being processed into Auschwitz. She tells about the death march that started with 500 women and ended with 18 at Bergen Belsen.
Her story begins as a very young child in Karlsbad. We follow her family to Prague, where they are deported to Theresienstadt, then sent in the cattle wagons to Auschwitz, to Birkenau, to Hamburg, and to Bergen Belsen. And then to Palestine after liberation.
Today, almost 60 years since being liberated from Bergen Belsen by the British, Judith Jaegermann travels back to Germany twice a year lecturing to students in high schools and universities. Her topic � What really happened in the camps; How two girls and their mother miraculously survived the Nazi atrocities. In Israel, Mrs. Jaegermann is a regular lecturer for students and soldiers.
Her message, both in �My Childhood In The Holocaust,� and in her lectures are straightforward. As one of the last surviving eyewitnesses to the Holocaust, Mrs. Jaegermann regards it as her duty to tell her story to today�s youth so that another Holocaust will not happen again.
