Hi, Folks. I'm currently researching and will soon be writing the first biography of Sydney Taylor. It will be a little while before that book is completely written and published. In the meantime, there is a little bit of biographical information about her in some author reference books, such as Something About the Author. The most comprehensive biographical entry I've seen about her is in the Encyclopedia of Jewish Women in America.
The Tenement museum is a great place to go. Other than that, there is no specific site that is directly related to Taylor that I can think of offhand. You could visit Rivington Street (I think that's the right name) to see where the family shopped (mentioned in the first All-of-a-Kind Family book). You could also go to Coney Island and Far Rockaway, other places the five sisters visited in the course of the books. I'm currently in New York myself, attending a seminar at the Jewish Theological Seminary about American Jewish communities--I came because of the intersections between my research for the Taylor book and the topics of the conference. While I am not going to be online much in the next couple of days, feel free to write me at the e-mail address listed below if you any more questions about Taylor. Take care, June Cummins _______________________________________________________ June Cummins, Assistant Professor Department of English and Comparative Literature San Diego State University [EMAIL PROTECTED] ========================================================================== HaSafran - The Electronic Forum of the Association of Jewish Libraries Submissions for HaSafran, send to: Hasafran at lists.acs.ohio-state.edu SUBscribing, SIGNOFF commands send to: Listserver at lists.acs.ohio-state.edu Questions, problems, complaints, compliments;-) send to: galron.1 at osu.edu AJL HomePage http://www.JewishLibraries.org/
