That reminds me of something I mentioned once in one of my columns. There used to be 2 sites called "Hatewatch". One listed racist sites and one listed sites that try to counter the racist sites (i.e. those supposedly showing "hatred for the white race"). A possible explanation for the high ranking of the "Jew Watch" site for the term "jew" may be that racist sites have attempted "Google Bombing". For those unfamiliar with the term, take a look at this story from Jan. 2004 : http://searchenginewatch.com/sereport/article.php/3296101 searchenginewatch.com is an important resource to look at when discussing the (in)effectiveness of online search engines and using the Internet for research. Finally, take a look at this site : http://www.googlism.com/ Steve Bergson, Librarian JPL of Toronto cyberspace columnist, AJL Newsletter =========================================================== Submissions for Ha-Safran, send to: Hasafran at lists.acs.ohio-state.edu SUBscribing, SIGNOFF commands send to: Listproc at lists.acs.ohio-state.edu Questions, problems, complaints, compliments;-) send to: galron.1 at osu.edu AJL HomePage http://www.JewishLibraries.org
