LIBRARY INTERNSHIP AT TEMPLE ISRAEL, BOSTON
                                 JULY - AUGUST 2004

Temple Israel is looking for a library school student, or recent library
school graduate who is interested in the field of Judaica librarianship, and
would like to gain hands-on experience in a synagogue library with regular
supervision.

The focus of the Summer Internship is to work with library materials and to
assist patrons. The following are all possible projects for an intern, and
would be selected based on an intern's interest and time commitment. A time
commitment would range from a few hours a week, to possibly up to 20 hours a
week for approximately 10 weeks. Compensation and starting date will be
discussed with each candidate.

                 DESCRIPTION OF POSSIBLE PROJECTS

1 Cataloguing audio- and videotapes of in-house productions: our
rabbis' lectures, guest speakers' presentations, children's programs.

2 Cataloguing new books and other materials.

3 Assisting the Librarian in weeding the collection.

4 Learning the procedures of the circulation desk, and staffing it
when
      necessary.

5. Evaluating the library's various systems.

6. Assisting Temple staff and other users in their research needs.

7. Staffing the library solo for two weeks in August while the Librarian
is away.

8. Other projects depending on interest and experience.
