Dear Wendy, Looking toward the future, my first question would be:
Do you think that the adult library would want/need to share the on-line (automated) catalog with the children's library at some time? If so, then I would recommend using the adult subject headings, with the subfield "v" denoting that the book is Juvenile literature or Juvenile fiction. In my library, while the children's collection is in another room, the on-line catalog covers both the adult and juvenile collections. I use only the "adult" subject headings, as I mentioned above, and I am quite happy with that arrangement. If the children's section catalog will always be separate from the adult's, then you could save a little time by only using the LCSH for juvenile cataloging. Remember that the indicators for juvenile subject headings are "01" instead of "00". If you'd like further help, please feel free to contact me privately.
