Dear colleagues,

For those of you who may not be updated about the current status of "Kiryat
Sefer", Israel's long-standing national bibliography, I am pleased to
report that it is now freely available online.

Following the decision to cease publishing the quarterly in printed form at
the end of 2003, the JNUL has resolved to widen the usage and functionality
of this bibliographic tool. Not only is it constantly augmented (rather
than at quarterly intervals) as a base (QSF) within the main JNUL
catalogue, but it now covers non-print materials (including electronic
resources) and, with the projected conversion to Aleph-500, will include
Arabic language publications also. We hope to implement other ideas for the
development of this database in the near future, in order to provide full
bibliographic and timely information on the latest Israeli and Judaica
publishing output.

The Browse function enables searching indexes of names, titles and Kiryat
Sefer subject categories. Other options for keyword searches are also
available. Users are invited to visit the site simply by clicking on the
Quick Link at the Jewish National and University Library website at
www.jnul.huji.ac.il
Comments will be welcomed by the Kiryat Sefer team (a link is provided from
the "Information on Kiryat Sefer" page).

Best wishes,
