Joan,
Let me answer your question with a question or two. What sort of multimedia
collection do you already have? What are your needs? What would you like to do?

At Main Line Reform Temple in Wynnewood, PA, a Reform synagogue wiwth over
1000 families, we received a gift for $30,000 to establish a multimedia
collection: large print books, CDs, fillms, books on tape and CD, sound
cassettes etc. Half of the money was put into an endowment. the multimedia
collection anmed in honor of the donating family with a plaque noting their
generous contribution.

Depending upon the situation, you may want to aks them if funding a
multimedia versus large print book collection appeals to them. You may
want to write, or revise, a collection policy covering multimedia as part
of the process and share it with them. They might want to specify what
percentage of the large print or multimedia budget should go for differing
formats or leave that up to you. In my experience people who come into the
library to borrow Judaica multimedia over time tend to borrow books, and
vice versa. Audio books seemed to be more popular than large print books.

Whatever you and they decide, publicize it at every opportunity.
