TITLE: Librarian, Jewish Studies/Hebrew Language Cataloger CATEGORY: Non-Tenured Faculty, Full Time (12 Month Appointment) SALARY: Commensurate with qualifications and experience Comprehensive Benefits
Responsibiliites: Catalogs Jewish Studies materials in all languages for all formats as
well as Hebrew language materials in all subjects. Assigns LC class numbers and subject
headings to OCLC copy. Creates original cataloging records according to local and national
cataloging standards for materials lacking OCLC copy. Revises OCLC copy to conform to
local and national cataloging standards. Performs appropriate authority work for cataloging
records. Accurately tags cataloging data according to MARC standards. Maintains knowledge
of library standards and automation and contributes expertise to the planning and
implementation of library goals and objectives. Participates in the development and
documentation of policies and procedures. Trains and supervises assigned staff and students.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications: Required: ALA-accredited Master’s degree in Library Science.
Experience: Proficiency in reading, writing and speaking Hebrew language. Familiarity
with Hebrew romanization systems. Familiarity with Jewish religious literature required.
Proficiency in the use of AACR2, Library of Congress Classification system and Library
of Congress Subject Headings. Familiarity with MARC. Ability to work effectively in a
team and with excellent communication skills. Experience with OCLC and/or RLIN and
knowledge of the Yiddish language are preferred.
