Wanted: School Library Grant Partners

I am developing a pilot program for transforming the
role of school libraries in Jewish Day Schools and I'm
looking for elementary and secondary School Library
Directors/Library Media Specialists who would be
interested in participating in an experimental network
of Library Talent Development Centers (program
described below). I am particularly looking for
creative people who can work with tight grant deadlines
to gather any necessary documentation. Participating
libraries and librarians would receive grant money to
buy books, kits, equipment & supplies, and receive
guidance & curriculum when we are, with G-d's help
successful, but would need to be willing to be
accountable for the mutually agreed upon
responsibilities and guidelines. The first grant
deadline is Feb. 18 and open to BJE accredited schools
in the Los Angeles area. Future grants will be
national. If you would like more information, or if you
have developed any similar programs, please contact Rae
Ekman Shagalov at <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>

Library Talent Development Centers:
A new model for school library media centers

Since talent is almost always interest based, the
library is a natural center for discovering and
developing talents in our students. At Emek Hebrew
Academy (Pre-1-8th grade), we are developing an
innovative library-based model for the development of
individual talents and leadership qualities in all
students. We are inviting other school libraries to
participate in an experimental network of Library
Talent Development Centers. You will use dynamic
educational products and programs that nurture
independent intellectual inquiry and creativity, and
encourage exploration for individual talent
development, science literacy and artistic expression.
You will learn the three-phase model for talent
development and how to run Exploratory Academies and
Library Leadership programs that will have students
running eagerly into your library at library time,
recess, and after school. You will also receive a
workbook and training in a new research skills program
of student-led, service-learning projects that will
show your students how to use their talents to improve
the world by doing great things in small ways. For more
information, contact Rae Ekman Shagalov at
