I've been listening to the discussion about Convention timing. One group has not been heard from. That is those of us who work in the non-Jewish world(I am a school librarian) but also work as Judaica librarians either parttime as either volunteers or salaried.
My school is never out before June 21 or 22. I used to be very active in AJL when I worked in the public library but have not been able to attend most conventions since I've been in a school. I don't know about other principals but mine would never let me leave for an AJL convention even if I had the 3-4 personal days. I don't know what the solution is...perhaps alternating weeks or even seasons.But it looks like the problem won't go away. BTW, if it weren't for AJL and the New Jersey Chapter, I probably wouldn't be where I am professionally.
