Hi, Folks. I'm mostly a lurker on this listserv, so please forgive me if my comments and questions about this issue seem out of line. I'll withdraw them if they are, but as of right now, I don't think they will be seen that way. What I want to know if why in the world couldn't people campaign and lobby about ALA elections on this listserv? Certainly, there is no consensus here, but surely, there are issues related to the election and its intersections with Jewish librarianship that might interest some or many of us. What's inherently wrong with discussing candidates' perspectives and platforms? Isn't that the very purpose of a listserv, to air and share views? Yossi stops us when things get out of hand, and I am sure he would let us know if we were becoming too ardent in expressing opinions or campaigning, but I don't see what's wrong, in and of itself, of discussing what the concerns of Ha-Safran members might be in this election and which candidates might or might not support them.
Or am I missing the point and campaigning of any sort is expressly forbidden here? I apologize if that's the case. If it's not forbidden, however, I think this is an excellent forum for the expression of opinions about this election, which clearly has a relationship to Jewish librarianship.
