LIBRARY INTERNSHIP AT TEMPLE ISRAEL, BOSTON JULY � AUGUST 2005
Temple Israel is looking for a library school student, or recent library school graduate who is interested in the field of Judaica librarianship, and would like to gain hands-on experience in a synagogue library with regular supervision.
The focus of the Summer Internship is to work with library materials and to assist patrons. The following are all possible projects for an intern, and would be selected based on an intern�s interest and time commitment. A time commitment would range from a few hours to 15 hours a week for approximately eight weeks. Compensation and starting date will be discussed with each candidate.
DESCRIPTION OF POSSIBLE PROJECTS
* Cataloguing audio- and visual-recordings of in-house productions: our rabbis� lectures, guest speakers� presentations, children�s programs.
* Cataloguing new books and other materials.
* Assisting the Librarian in weeding the collection and conducting inventory.
* Learning the procedures of the circulation desk, and staffing it when necessary.
5. Evaluating the library�s various systems.
6. Assisting Temple staff and other users in their research needs.
7. Staffing the library "solo" for two weeks in August while the Librarian is away.
* Other projects depending on interest and experience.
Temple Israel is a Reform synagogue with 1,600 families, 20 full-time staff and 50 part-time faculty members, located on the corner of the Riverway and Longwood Avenue, a short walk or drive from Simmons College. Our library has 17,000 books, audio-visual materials and journals, and serves a diverse community of Jews and their families from the Greater Boston area.
