The recent posting by Mr. Nachamie regarding B.C./A.D. vs. B.C.E./C.E.
relate to reports by LC's Hebraica Team that the proposal to utilize
B.C.E./C.E. instead of B.C./A.D. in the new KBM classification schedule for
Jewish law was not accepted.

Implementation of a change in this practice in one area of the
classification schedule would likely necessitate a commitment to make this
change universally in the classification schedules, and would require
consideration of the impact on subject and name headings as well. A change
of such magnitude would require extensive supporting documentation. Mr.
Nachamie's effort in sharing the article about trends in the scholarly
community was very helpful.

It should be noted that implementing changes in some of these matters goes
beyond LC's sole purview, since the practices are based on the
Anglo-American Cataloging Rules.

Please take note that the KBM schedule and the BM schedule for Judaism
utilize the terms "Tanakh" and "Hebrew Bible" in the captions for the new
alternative classifications for Tanakh appearing at <KBM450+> and <BM450+>.
