Need help organizing your library?
Feeling overwhelmed?
Do you have a lot of questions, but dont know quite how to ask them?
Are you a new librarian or volunteer with little formal training in library science?

Maybe you are struggling with classification and cataloging, or you dont know which books to purchase for your library. Or, maybe you are exploring the idea of automating your library collection and dont know where to start. Or maybe you are just trying to get your library off the ground. The Freshmen Seminar at the AJL Convention can help you with all of these challenges and more!

The Association of Jewish Libraries will again offer The Freshmen Seminar during the Annual Convention in Oakland, California. Freshmen Seminar sessions will be offered on Sunday, June 19, 1:00-3:30 PM, and Monday, June 20, 8:30 AM-12:00. The Freshman Seminar will provide an opportunity for new and inexperienced librarians and volunteer staff to learn the basics of Judaica librarianship from experts in the field. The 5 hour seminar will introduce participants to some of the knowledge, tools, and resources needed to organize and operate their libraries in a professional way. Topics covered will include classification, cataloging, automation, collection development, and policy development for synagogue, day school, and community libraries. There is no additional charge for The Freshmen Seminar but conference registration is required. See below for a complete outline and description of this years Freshmen Seminar.
