This year AJL Professional Development and Continuing Education Committee 
is offering the following CEU courses.
Co-sponsored by AJL Professional Development and Continuing Education 
Committee, and The University of Wisconsin-Madison/Extension

CEU course A:

Title: Basic Resources for Rabbinic Literature

Abstract: Reference Resources for Rabbinic Literature:   This CEU class 
will define Rabbinic Literature in broad terms and will provide the 
participants with resources and skills which are essential for catalogers 
and reference librarians.  It will meet the needs of school, synagogue and 
center librarians as well as library staff of academic and public 
institutions who do not have in-depth knowledge of Judaica.  Although 
Hebrew language is not a pre-requisite, knowledge of the Hebrew alphabet 
would be helpful.

Instructor: Adaire Klein, Director of Library and Archival Services for the 
Simon Wiesenthal Center and the Museum of Tolerance in Los Angeles, CA.

Schedule: Monday, June 20, 2005 @ 8:30-9:40, 10-12, and 1:40-3.

CEU course B:

Title: Introduction to Archives.

This course will introduce librarians to the key concepts and techniques 
for dealing with archival materials.  Topics covered will include defining 
the mission of the archives, appraisal and acquisition of material, 
organization and description of collections, preservation concepts, and 
using archival collections.  The course will include case studies and 
hands-on practice for organizing and describing collections.

Instructor : Joy Kingsolver, Director of the Chicago Jewish 
Archives,  Spertus Institute of Jewish Studies.
Schedule: Tuesday, June 21, 2005 @ 8:30-10, 10:30-12, 1:45-3:15.

Book Repair Workshop:
Given by Demco.

Schedule: Sunday, June 19, 2005 @ 1:00-2:30

Tuition for the CEU courses is $45.00enrollment limited to 20no auditing is 
allowed.

Additional Information

AJL and The University of Wisconsin-Madison /Extension will award a 0.5 CEU 
certificate to each participant if he/she is a current (paid-up) AJL member 
and is present for the entire 5 hours of instruction.

Tuition will cover registration, honorarium, supplies, packet of materials, 
plus a fee of $20 to the University of Wisconsin for CEU credit. If a 
registered student is unable to attend the course, a refund will be given 
upon written request.
