Hebrew College Seeking a Systems Librarian

The Gann Library of Hebrew College, Newton Centre, MA, is currently seeking a Systems Librarian. Under the administrative supervision of the Library Director and in cooperation with the library staff, the incumbent will enable the Hebrew College community to take full advantage of our Web-based integrated library system, Ex Libris' Aleph 500 and relevant distributed technologies.

Major Responsibilities:

� Works closely and collaboratively in a team-based environment bringing systems knowledge and experience to the advancement of library goals in existing and new initiatives.

� Oversees daily library systems operations and services on both UNIX and client-server platforms � Manages the library�s integrated library system, ALEPH 500, including:

� the installation and implementation of module releases and system enhancements � support and training for staff � maintenance and compilation of data input into systems tables. � testing of system parameters of all new functions and Z39.50 connections � running of management reports and other batch jobs in production.

Required:

�       Training and experience in Computer Technologies, including:

� Integrated Library Systems (preferably ALEPH 500) � Programming Knowledge: UNIX (AIX), Oracle and SQL (or other relational database management systems) PERL, JavaScript, or other scripting languages

� Local Area Networks, CD-ROM technology � PC-based applications software, Web formats; Windows/NT � Microsoft Office and client/server applications

� Masters in Library Science from an ALA accredited library school or its foreign equivalent with special attention to:

�       RLIN, OCLC, MARC format and cataloging practices

�       Excellent communication skills in written and spoken English

Preferred:

� Judaic Studies background and proficiency in Hebrew � Practical knowledge of Visual Basic or C++.

Minimal salary $40,000. (Benefits include health, dental and life insurance, pension and auto insurance contributions, 20 days vacation, Jewish and national holidays, and sick leave).
