Please pass on this reminder about the the seventh annual Jewish Children's Book Writers' Conference.
AJL members Steve Siegel and Anna Olswanger organize the conference, which takes place at the 92nd Street Y in Manhattan on November 20 this year. Since the last announcement, Israeli author Anna Levine has agreed to give a short talk at the conference on "Beyond the Headlines: Israel's Other Stories." Levine's YA novel Running on Eggs was on the New York Public Library's list of best books for the teen age in the year 2000 and she has published a number of short stories and poems in Cicada, Cricket and Spider magazines. Levine will talk as a writer from Israel. In her words: "Terror, death, and hatred are not the only things that define us!" She will discuss the rich resources in Israel for writers to draw on, from archeology to ornithology, biblical stories, and the experiences of young religious girls growing up today in Mea Shearim. Chick lit from the beaches of Tel Aviv, anyone? Also joining the Q&A Panel and First Pages/Query Letter Clinic will be Scott Blumenthal, editor at Behrman House, and Judye Groner, editorial director of Kar-Ben Publishing. More editors to come! Please invite invite your colleagues and interested patrons to attend. Thanks.
