Dear Poshi, Lisa, and members of AJL, I know that the Jewish Community Library, which is also the New Orleans Jewish Day School Library in Metairie was badly damaged. This library is (or was) in a brand new complex that included the Jewish Federation and other Jewish community organizations. Their Librarian is Debbie Schlackman, who is a member of AJL. Debbie and Betty Lazarus, Librarian at Congregation Gates of Prayer in Metairie were my hosts when I visited New Orleans two years ago representing National AJL. I do not know how the Gates of Prayer Library fared.(I wrote to Betty but have not heard back from her) I also know that the Jewish Community Center was destroyed.
