No. As explained in earlier emails, on the website and in the newsletter
(forthcoming), AJL remains committed to including all its members, and
alternatives will be provided for those without internet access. A parallel
can be seen in the issue of kashrut at conventions. There is no constitutional
requirement that AJL provide kosher meals at conventions--yet AJL remains
so committed to including all members that venues are turned down if they
cannot provide acceptable kosher catering. The same principle is behind this
proposal to allow electronic balloting.

The reason electronic balloting was proposed by the Board is the spiraling
cost of postage & other costs related to mailing. When we sent out the
constitution, for example, we had to reduce the font size to save
space and money.
As more and more of our membership gets online access--whether at home, or at
work, or at a public library--it becomes more feasible to conduct an
election largely
through the internet. This issue has been a concern of the Board's
for several years.

If the changes are not approved, then we will start again with the process
to bring our constitution into line with our legal documentation.
