Safranim, The March 3 issue of Ha'aretz has an article on the Jewish National and University Library, "A Problem Shelved Too Often," by Benny Mer: <http://www.haaretz.com/hasen/pages/shart.jhtml?itemno>http://www.haaretz.com/hasen/pages/ShArt.jhtml?itemNo=689870.
In addition to providing historical background, the article discusses ongoing efforts to separate the JNUL from the Hebrew University and transform it into a national library "tout court." These efforts are being encouraged by the Rothschild family's Yad Hanadiv Foundation. The article includes segments of an interview with Rosalind Duke, acting director and head librarian of the JNUL. Those who attended the 2003 AJL convention in Toronto may remember Rosalind's presentation regarding the JNUL.
