Peggy-

We have been using a product called d_skin (you can order them from
amazon.com -- cost is about $1 each) -- These are removeable skins that snap
onto the DVD (no adhesive). At first, I thought they were GREAT in that
they protect DVDs from fingerprints and scratches. However, some people
have trouble playing through the skins on their machines (while most
machines play through them with no problem), AND/OR some people don't read
the bright labels we put on every DVD package and think they must remove the
skin before playing (which of course defeats the purpose and also damages
the skin). So I find myself fielding some complaints and also needing to
frequently replace the skins.

I have seen ads for protective labels that adhere directly to the DVD, and I
am contemplating trying that solution. At least patrons wouldn't remove
them. But I worry that if I don't apply the protective label perfectly flat
and smooth, then I might ruin the DVD. Have you gotten any responses from
people who use these labels or the spray (I hadn't heard about the spray
before)? Please share. Thanks.

I have also tried 2 products for cleaning/repairing DVDs with mixed results.
Clean Dr. morotized disc cleaner is a small battery-operated machine (cost
about $15) that comes with a cleaning spray. This machine seems to help
remove fingerprints but not scratches. For scratches, I have Allsop scratch
repair system, which includes some polishing cream and polishing cloths (I
bought this from one of the library supply companies, Demco or Brodart,
don't remember the cost, but not very expensive). This does seem to help,
bu not like the fancy polishing machines that cost thousands of dollars!
