Federation’s Alliance for Jewish Education Presents:
A Jewish Children’s Literature Conference

All Jewish Educators and Library Professionals are invited to join us 
for an evening of discussion of notable Jewish children’s 
books.   The schedule for the evening is as follows:

7:00­7:10­ Welcome

7:10­7:40­ Keynote Address by Rachel Kamin­ “The Best New Jewish 
Books for 
Children”

Each year the Sydney Taylor Book Awards, sponsored by the Association 
of Jewish Libraries, honors the most outstanding books of positive 
Jewish content for children.  Hear about the 2007 winners, as well as 
other new books that are a “must buy” for your school, synagogue, and 
home library.

Rachel Kamin, M.S.I., has served as the Director of the Temple Israel 
Libraries and Media Center since her graduation from the University 
of Michigan School of Information in 1997.  She has served on the 
Sydney Taylor Book Award Committee since 2003 and became the Chair of 
the Committee in January 2006.  Rachel regularly presents workshops 
for the Association of Jewish Libraries, the Michigan Library 
Association, and the Conference on Alternatives in Jewish Education 
and reviews Jewish children’s literature for School Library Journal, 
Jewish Book World, and the AJL Newsletter.

There is no charge for this event. NIRIM participants will receive 3 
NIRIM credits.

Participants are asked to come to the event having read the 
literature selections from one of the three literature discussion groups.
The books are widely available at local public libraries and many 
congregational and Jewish agency libraries.
